Drew Estate Liga Privada No. 9
I visited Holts in Center City Philadelphia to enjoy some time in their lounge, and picked up the last Liga Privada they had. Unfortunately, it wasn’t an enjoyable smoke.
The draw is very smooth with just the right subtle resistance. There’s an initial bitter or tangyness to the taste which gives way to a distinct tobacco taste. Unfortunately, there was a heavy chemical taste as well, maybe like ammonia or something. It was overpowering. There’s a subtle aftertaste of sweet, dry cocoa powder. Retrohing brings about a dryer, woodier taste with more of the darker swetness.
The aroma continues the overpowering ammonia like chemical part. There was a tangy bitter aspect, quickly giving way to darker, richer scents, including the sweet cocoa powder.
It’s a shame this cigar seemed ruined with this chemical aspect. I do not know if it’s because the cigar was smoked before its time, or it’s something common in a lot of newer Liga Privada’s which I’m reading often after doing some review searching on the ‘net. I will try this cigar again, it has such a high reputation about it that I feel deserves a second chance, but it may be difficult to find one that’s good.
