Madelaine Fuego Single Flame Lighter

Executive Summary:
Cheap lighter, but reluctantly works, even in the cold.

The Madelaine Fuego Single Flame Lighter was a $5.00 offer from a large cigar order through Famous Smoke Shop. I figured why the hell not. Overall, it has been serving me well for two weeks, despite the flame going out on a long-light and taking two clicks to get started. Because it works instantly in the cold, where my tri-flames refuse to light, I’ve been making good use of this cheap lighter. The plastic construction is a let down; the lighter feels cheap. The manual-flip lid is obnoxiousness.

The Bad

  • The lighter is made entirely of plastic; it may look like brushed aluminum; but it’s instead brushed plastic
  • The flip-top lid is manual; it will not auto-flip when you press down on the light plunger
  • It sometimes fails to ignite on the first strike; gas just shoots out
  • The flame goes out during a long lighting; gas just continues to shoot out

The Good

  • It works in the cold, even when two of my more expensive tri-flame lighters refuse to. The Madelaine still needs a click or two, but it will work
  • Despite being made of plastic, it does look nice. It’s very light and cheap feeling
