This wine is the first of a series of wines we will be producing with one of Napa Valley’s premier grape growing families. It’s a match made in Heaven. They own and farm thousands of Napa Valley’s best dirt, but have only a small brand of their own. This is a fantastic Oakville Merlot sourced, again, from the heart of Oakville and with plenty of structure and stuffing for Cabernet lovers.
Well I wasn’t too fond of this Merlot. After allowing it to breath, I just found it…uninspiring. It had a texture of cardboard; a bit rough on the tongue. And while I do love a dry Merlot, this was just … odd, and I feel a bit to acidic. There was not much of a fruit-like taste to it, though it did have more of an alcohol taste. Strong with a kick, it makes its presence known in the mouth and overall. There are deeper tastes such as coffee and a dark berry, but it was just too much with the other qualities that really did not provide enjoyment.
